Finally, the dream of Bicol University to own an Office, Students and Staff House in Metro Manila has been fulfilled.
Home away from home
This new BU property is located at No. 4 Lopez St., Bgy. San Antonio, San Francisco Del Monte District, Quezon City. It is worth the P8.8 Million cost for it surely provides BUeňos a “home away from home” experience. The four-storey house on a 223.9 square meter lot has nine bedrooms.
“This new home is BU’s destiny,” said Dr. Fay Lea Patria M. Lauraya, Bicol University President. The President herself made sure that “BUeňos shall have a secure, comfortable home away from home, and [that] we BUeňos must be able to experience the finer things in life which, individually, we can’t provide on our own. BU deserves the best and so the President chose only the best for all BUeňos.”
“It seems that the house was built for Bicol University,” said Dr. Lauraya, having noted that it has all the amenities BU needs.
Much credit is to be given to the House Procurement Committee led by Architect Leo Del Rosario who labored for two years in search of a house that would meet the needs of the BU community. The Office of the Vice President for Production is likewise commended for all preparations done to transform the place into a comfortable living environment.
House Warming Celebrations…
Amidst the heavy rains brought by Typhoon Falcon, the House Warming for this new BU property was held on June 23, 2011. It was attended by the BU Board of Regents, vice presidents, deans, directors, and heads of offices. The Holy Mass and House Blessing were officiated by Father Eli Buenaventura Mata, SVD.
The Mass and blessing was followed by a program for the giving of tokens and gifts from the BU colleges/units for the new Staff House. The tokens and gifts consisted of the Holy Bible from the Zonal Center, dictionaries from the VPAA, plaques, trophies, and certificates of recognitions achieved from BUCE, BUCN, BUCBEM, and BUCENG, ceramic lamps from BUTC, and other house decors from the rest of the colleges and units.
The heavy rains, as said by Father Eli in his Homily, signify the many blessings the BU Community has been receiving through the administration of Dr. Lauraya. Indeed, this new Staff House is where every student and personnel of BU can feel secure and comfortable while in Manila.
With this new Staff House that every BUeňo can call his own, it hopes to further inspire the BU community to continuously working as ONE for them to have the finer things in life and for BU to remain an Excellent University. (Viveth N. Gonzales/OP)
