BU Pres signs agreement for CL to support SAC-Legazpi's Parish Protection Desk, other programs

A virtual Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing was held between Bicol University (BU) through its College of Law and Social Action Center-Diocese of Legazpi, broadcasted live via BU Facebook page on June 25, 2021.

In this partnership, the university, through the BU College of Law, will support and commit to the programs and projects of SAC particularly its Parish Protection Desk through its pool of experts to provide SAC-Legazpi the needed legal and legal-related services to achieve its goal of a society free from violence and abuse.

SAC –Legazpi was able to forge the MOA in coordination with and facilitated by the BU Communication and Public Relations Office (CPRO), under the Office of the President, through its Director Renelyn E. Bautista.  An initial exploratory meeting was set last September 20, 2020, at the BU GASS Conference Room with Asst. Executive Director, now, SAC Executive Director Fr. Eric B. Martillano. Last week, in a meeting with Fr. Martillano and CPRO Director Renelyn Bautista, the contents and key points of the MOA were discussed for finalization. Drafted by Atty. Norly P. Reyes, BUCL Associate Dean, the MOA was then forwarded to the Legal Office and reviewed by Legal Officer Atty. Dharyl Redoblado prior to the MOA signing. 

The virtual MOA signing commenced with a rationale discussed by Myrna A. Llanes, Operations Officer, SAC-Legazpi. Present for the MOA signing were the key players, BU President Arnulfo M. Mascariñas, BU College of Law Dean Atty. Hardy B. Aquende, BUCL Associate Dean Atty. Norly P. Reyes, SAC-Legazpi Executive Director Rev. Fr. Eric B. Martillano, with the Community Development Worker and Operations Officer of SAC-Legazpi.

Afterwards, Atty. Aquende delivered a statement of commitment followed by messages from Rev.Fr. Martillano who outlined the growing issues on violence and abuse of women and children in the province, and also gave the program’s closing and final blessing. The BU President expressed his gratitude to SAC-Legazpi for having chosen its newly-established College of Law for such a major project. Atty. Hardy Aquende, likewise assured their partner that they are in good, capable, and committed hands in terms of program implementation.

Ms. Jeannette Barcellano, Community Development Worker of SAC-Legazpi facilitated the MOA singing with Dr. Bautista.
